These ten days are focused on getting to know the highlight of Peru; Machu Picchu and the culture that is responsible for this majestic site. After Lima we will first explore Cusco and the Sacred Valley to get the hand of the altitude as well as an introduction into the Inca history. From here we will set off on our 4 day hiking adventure over the original Inca Trail leading to Machu Picchu. This traverse with its high mountain passes and camping on altitude will allow you to truly appreciate this magnificent site and the efforts gone through by this ancient society to build this unique archeological wonder.

Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu
Summary
Today you will have a full day to explore the “City of Kings” Lima. Home to almost one third of the population this massive city has a lot to show for. Beautiful historic buildings, old pre Inca temples, world class museums, the Pacific Ocean and not to forget the new star of the show; Peruvian gastronomy.
Today we will collect you from your hotel in Lima for your flight to Cusco. On arrival to this beautiful city in the mountains you will be collected and taken to your hotel in the center of town. In the afternoon we will collect you for a guided visit of the city as well as the 4 impressive Inca ruins located on the outskirts of town.
In the morning we will collect you in Cusco and head to the Sacred Valley located at about 1 hour drive from Cusco. In the Sacred Valley we will visit the Inca sites of Pisac and Ollantaytambo as well as the famous Pisac Market before heading to your hotel for the night. We will spend the night in the valley which will, apart from being able to enjoy the quietness of the valley a head start tomorrow being located closer to the starting point of your hike to Machu Picchu.
This day is all about beautiful views and amazing Inca sites. Today we will cross a number of smaller Inca sites perched against mountain tops and next to cliffs but all with amazing views giving you a taste of what the Inca accomplished and what is yet to come. In the afternoon you will arrive to Winay Wayna, the largest site so far where you will find the last campsite.
We will get up before dawn and start hiking the final 2 hours to Machu Picchu in order to reach the Sun Gate by sunrise. At the site of Machu Picchu you will enjoy a guided visit showing you the main parts of this massive site. If available you can also hike the Huayna Picchu Mountain for some bird’s eye views of the site and its surroundings. In the afternoon you will return by train the Sacred Valley and from here to Cusco and your hotel.
After the impressions of the last couple of days, this day is free to unwind, enjoy the beauty of Cusco on your own pace and wander through this fascinating city. With a lot of museums, great restaurants and exceptional souvenir shopping opportunities you will not have one dull moment in this city. Optionally this day you could also visit Chinchero, Maras & Moray.
