This package is designed for those interested in ancient history, culture and archeology. These twelve days are packed with ancient history, incredible architecture, beautiful museums and interesting cities. We will start with a visit to Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. After the Inca capital we will head to North Peru for a visit to the heritage of the ancient Kingdoms that ruled this part of Peru. The much less visited north of Peru is home to unique archeological sites such as Chan Chan, Tucume and hundreds of Huacas (temples) dating back as far as 500 B.C. The colonial city of Trujillo with its mild climate is the perfect end point of this Peru journey.

Day to day Itinerary

Day 1; Arrive to Lima, pickup, transfer to your hotel & overnight
On arrival to Lima you will be collected at the airport and directly taken to your hotel in the upscale neighborhood of Miraflores or Barranco. Here you can unwind after your flight and get ready for the start of your Peru journey.
Day 2; Full day excursion in Lima
In order to start your journey the right way, today we will take you on an exploration of the city of kings; Lima. Home to almost one third of the population this massive city has a lot to show for. Colonial buildings, old pre Inca temples, world class museums, the Pacific Ocean and not to forget the new star of the show; Peruvian gastronomy.
Day 3; Fly to Cusco, pickup & excursion to the Sacred Valley
Today we will collect you from your hotel in Lima for your flight to Cusco. On arrival to Cusco you will be collected and taken to the Sacred Valley, which is located on lower altitude then Cusco allowing for a better acclimatization. En route to the valley we will visit the Inca sites of Pisac and Ollantaytambo as well as the famous Pisac Market. You will spend the night in the Sacred Valley.
Day 4; Train journey to Machu Picchu & guided visit
Today we will collect you in the morning from your Sacred Valley Hotel and take you to the train station for your train to Machu Picchu. On arrival you will be assisted and by bus taken to this crown jewel of the Andes where you will enjoy a private guided visit. After some free time in the afternoon you can head back to town and your hotel for the night.
Day 5; Morning visit to Machu Picchu, hike Huayna Picchu and return to Cusco
On day two of your Machu Picchu visit you can head up to site in the early morning and enjoy the day at leisure in this magnificent surroundings. If available we will also include the ticket to climb Huayna Picchu. In the afternoon you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo and return to Cusco where you will be taken to your hotel.
Day 6; Free morning and afternoon guided excursion of Cusco and the Inca sites
Today you start with a free morning to unwind and enjoy the beautiful city of Cusco. The central location of your hotel will allow you to explore this historic city center on foot. In the afternoon we will collect you for a guided visit of the city as well as the 4 impressive Inca ruins located on the outskirts of town.
Day 7; Free day to enjoy the beautiful city of Cusco
After the impressions of the last couple of days, this day is free to unwind, enjoy the beauty of Cusco on your own pace and wander through this fascinating city. With a lot of museums, great restaurants and exceptional souvenir shopping opportunities you will not have one dull moment in this city. Optionally this day you could also visit Chinchero, Maras & Moray.
Day 8; Travel to Chiclayo on the Peruvian North Coast
After the impressions of the last couple of days, today we will head back to Lima where we will connect with a flight to Chiclayo on the North Coast. Chiclayo is known as the capital of hospitality and provides a nice change of climate and scenery from the Andean Highlands. On arrival you will be welcomed and taken to your hotel in the center of town. The rest of the afternoon you have free at leisure.
Day 9; Full day visit to Sipan, the Tumbas Reales Museum and Tucume
Today is all about the Moche and Moche Chico cultures. We will start with a visit to the original site of Sipan, a Moche temple where you can see the actual investigation still ongoing. The discoveries of this site are numerous and unique in the world and are collected at our next stop; the Museum of the Tumbas Reales del Señor de Sipan. This is one of the best museum in the country and puts the Inca history of Peru in a new historic context. Finally we will head to Tucume; Tucume is made up out of 27 pyramid like mud structures, most of which are graves and temples (Huacas) for old emperors and rulers. In the afternoon we will return to Chiclayo.
Day 10; travel from Chiclayo to Trujillo visiting El Brujo & the Lady of Cao en route
This day we will travel from Chiclayo to Trujillo. The drive will take about 4 hours and about halfway we will visit the impressive archeological site of El Brujo. El Brujo was discovered years ago but only recently it came to light that in one of the graves or Huacas the remains were found of what seems to be the only female ruler ever found in this region, giving birth to whole new theories about these ancient societies. They name her the Lady of Cao and her tomb was found almost intact. Based on her mummy a scientific 3D model of the Lady of Cao has been made. In the afternoon we will arrive to the colonial city of Trujillo and your hotel.
Day 11; Full day visit to Trujillo, Chan Chan, Huanchaco and Huaca de La Luna
Today we will have a full day to enjoy the amazing sites in and around Trujillo. We will first explore the city center with its historic buildings and square. From here we will head to Chan Chan, the largest adobe structure on the planet. This huge archeological site is one of the nicest in Peru. From here we will head to the fishermen’s town of Huanchaco before ending our day at the beautiful Huaca de la Luna.
Day 12; Time at leisure in Trujillo and transfer to the airport
Depending on the flight schedule you may enjoy Trujillo during the morning and in the afternoon taken to the airport for your flight to Lima.
